You should all know at this point that I love to read, anything and everything almost. Parenting can be about as fun as running through Lake Erie in the middle of January with nothing but your socks and panties on. That is why we all need a little comic relief once in a while. I have found some for all of us mamas. Ready to pull your hair out? How about barricading yourself in a closet with your coffee pot and a pound of chocolate? Yeah, it happens.

Parenting can be a drag. Now don’t get me wrong, I love my littles and wouldn’t trade em in for a lifetime supply of Folger’s even if given the opportunity. But we all need a break once in a while, and there are just some days we want to say “F*** it!” and go back to bed. I have found five books that will make you laugh and remind you that you’re not the only one feeling that way. It happens to us all. I don’t believe there is a single mom in this world who has never thought about calling it quits.
book 1: how to traumatize your children: 7 proven methods to help you screw up your kids deliberately & with skill
In order to find this book funny, you have to have a sense of humor. None of us are actually going to try to mess our children up. This book is just a reminder that it happens and sometimes you just can’t help it. It’s a hilarious read and something I recommend picking up. Especially when the kids took 2 hours to put on their pj’s and actually stay in bed.
It is the truth after all. You know they are, I know they are, sometimes I think they know they are too. We’ve just passed through toddlerhood, but I think he still has some lingering toddler left in him. This book is a must read for anyone who is living the toddler life, poop jokes and potty training all day, every day. Again, this requires a sense of humor!
Seriously, laugh out loud hilarious. Again, not for the sensitive moms who think that perfection is possible in parenthood. David has done a great job of taking those first-time-mom freak-outs and making it funny. His book is full of common sense techniques that actually apply to parenthood, but he puts a comic spin on it. A great read for sure, and a great gift for a new mom or dad.
book 4: i heart my little a-Holes: a bunch of holy-crap moments no one ever told you about parenting
Karen, the author of the blog Baby Sideburns, is hilarious. Her book is full of the WTF moments all of us moms have. You know, those thoughts you have that you’re afraid if you said out loud someone would take that adorable little a**hole away for. She has compiled all of the crazy mom moments into a really funny book. Just don’t read it while you’re drinking that glass of wine, or you’ll be looking for quick stain removers.
book 5: go the f**k to sleep
This is NOT a children’s bedtime story, absolutely not. It’s more like mom’s bedtime story so she can forget about all of your tantrums from the past hour and finally get some sleep. While it looks as though it was intended for a child, it is not. But, you will laugh so hard because you actually understand why someone would be so motivated to write this book. I love it, like seriously love it. I think you will too.
