Starting a blog is a lot of work. I’ve quickly found that out over the past month and a half. Some days I question why I continue blogging. But then I realize that I actually enjoy what I’m doing and I may be able to support my family with something I love. So today on #30DaysofMe I’m going to talk about how I found out about blogging and why I decided to start my own blog.
If you’re not sure what my 30 Days of Me Challenge is, it is a month of daily prompts so that you can get to know me better. Meet the girl behind the blog, of course, we won’t meet in person but I do want you to become familiar with me. Heck, let’s just be friends.
If you’re a blogger joining in and you’d like to take the 30 Days of Me challenge, just make your own 30 Days of Me graphic and write your first post. Make sure you link back to me on Day 1, so others know where you got the challenge, and leave me a comment with your post link so I can follow your journey also!
My Discovery of Blogging
It’s been a couple years now that I truly knew about blogging and that people blogged for a living and a passion. I had wanted a new craft/side hustle opportunity so I decided to teach myself how to knit. Yes, I learned to knit before I learned to crochet. Yes, I can do both with ease. But anyway, I had been doing my research so that I could learn the proper techniques and get tips from people more experienced than I was. In my research, I came across hundreds of people blogging about how to knit and how to crochet, or even how to sell knit and crochet items.
As time passed, I got better at both and I started writing my own crochet patterns. This gave me the thought that maybe I could blog about my own patterns too, but I just never was sure about how long I could keep up with that. Crocheting takes time, so does pattern creation, and I didn’t realize it at the time, but blogging takes a ton of time too.
To make a long story short, I decided against starting a crochet blog. But no matter what I was trying to learn I would end up on a blog. And I really wanted to get what I know and love out into the world. But I was never able to narrow down what exactly I wanted to write about.
Why Did I Start a Blog?
One night I had been wrapping up my day and I just wasn’t happy career-wise. I had been in college for such a long time and still couldn’t do anything with that knowledge I gained. I wanted to be in the mental health field and I wanted to help other students and other moms. And to be quite honest, my blog name just hit me. Like a sippy cup to the back of your headrest while you’re driving. Yep, just like that. And I sat there wondering, after two years of throwing the idea back and forth in my head, why had I not thought of that before.
I’ve learned a lot from my time in college, and my time as a parent. I have always had a very helping nature and I love the feeling I get when I can help someone. And that my dears, is how Lessons of a Student Mom was born.
You may also like to know that I will be adding a blogging section to this lovely blog within the next month or so. I have gained so much new knowledge, and I want to share it with you. From getting affiliate programs to linking with other bloggers in my niche and other niches. I have loved it and have been open to helping my fellow bloggers in the process. I can’t wait to share what I’ve learned with all of you very soon.
If you’re enjoying my 30 Days of Me Challenge and want to ask me a question please leave a comment. I promise I’ll answer it. I may even turn it into a post or feature your question and my answer in an upcoming newsletter.
